Meet a few of the writers, photographers and illustrators who have contributed to the recent issues of Lodestars Anthology.
LIZ SCHAFFER
Liz is the founder and creative director of Lodestars Anthology which (since 2014) has explored a single country in every issue, and is dedicated to food, nature, culture and life-changing experiences.
An expert at living out of a suitcase, she set up the mag in London, pens books from Sydney, but works as a writer, editor and photographer across the globe.
Her first book with Hoxton Mini Press, Slow Travel Britain, was released on 2024, with Slow Travel Japan coming out in 2026.
FINN BEALES
Finn is an award-winning travel, lifestyle and commercial photographer based in the United Kingdom where he lives with his wife and two children. Attracted by his cinematic style and the narrative he weaves throughout his work, Finn shoots for the likes of Apple, Land Rover, Omega, Cartier and a variety of other global brands. An early adopter of Instagram, he is well known on the platform where he has over half a million followers and often works with brands using his social network to extend their reach and amplify messaging in a credible, relatable and engaging manner.

Kate is an American travel writer and photographer and the voice of Nomad in Nihon, a destination blog for travellers seeking off-the-beaten-path experiences in Nihon (Japan) and beyond. SIMON BRAY
Simon Bray is a Manchester based artist, who develops projects exploring place, through photography, text and sound, investigating our connection to place and its influence on our personal identity. Simon's work has been shown at The Southbank Centre, MIF, The Whitworth, Open Eye Gallery, Brewery Arts Kendal, Oriel Colwyn and shown on BBC Breakfast TV. As well as Lodestars, his work has been published by The Guardian, BBC In Pictures, The Telegraph Magazine, Rakes Progress and Positive News. Simon works as a commercial and editorial photographer for a variety of local and national clients. Simon is also a creative producer, and recently worked with Martin Parr on his latest commission for Manchester Art Gallery.

TOM BUNNING
Tom is a British commercial photographer specialising in portraiture, fashion, advertising and documentary work. Tom’s studio is in London but he works all over the world for a wide range of clients and his work regularly appears in print and online.

MAIA CHOZAS
Maia Chozas is an Argentinean collage artist who uses painting, photography and digital art as mediums to compose almost mystical artworks that centre on the natural world and blur the lines between the real and the imaginary.
Her images approach abstraction in a fluid and organic way, generating contradictions. The process is similar to the way in which our memories mix and modify to each other, giving rise to new combinations, changing the conception of our reality.

PIERA CIREFICE
Piera Cirefice is an Irish illustrator, based in the UK. The beauty of the outdoors fuels her work, with travel reportage at the heart of her practice. Using traditional methods like watercolour and referencing cartography she aims to document the landscape: the flora and fauna, as well as the tales tied to that land, all with an underlying emphasis on ecological concerns.

CAROLINE CLEMENTS
Caroline Clements is an Australian writer, editor and producer. She was the founding editor of Broadsheet, and worked in various editorial positions for the media company, where she produced cookbooks, city guides and pop-up restaurants in Melbourne and Sydney. As a writer she has written for various publications and has also worked in editorial production and partnerships for brands. She is the Australian editor of A Hotel Life and edits the hyper local guide, Local Bondi. She is the co-author of two travel books about swimming, Places We Swim and Places We Swim Sydney, with her partner Dillon Seitchik-Reardon.

Kristen Cosby is a freelance writer, editor and educator. Her writing has received generous support from the Jan Michalski Foundation (Switzerland), Can Serrat (Spain), the Corporation of Yaddo (USA), the MacDowell Artist Colony (USA), and the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts (USA). DAN COOK
Dan shares his love the outdoors through his award-winning photography and (not award-winning) writing. Capturing landscapes, journeys and smaller details that tell stories from days spent wandering in locations across the globe. Dan is happiest with a camera in hand and a long walk ahead with a pub at the end. Based in Sheffield UK, Dan works on commissions, editorials and producing prints for collectors worldwide.

Seduced by springtime cherry blossoms, Japanese minimalism and sushi on tap, British writer Danielle Demetriou swapped London for Tokyo in 2007, following close to a decade working on national newspapers. She is a correspondent for the Daily Telegraph and writes design, travel and lifestyle stories for international magazines.

Raised in kitchens & restaurants, Sébastien’s innate understanding of the industry runs deep. His passion for food philosophies and cultures around the dinner table intensified after morphing his love for the culinary industry with his fervour for the visual medium.
Particularly interested in the ways food shapes identities and cultures, culinary photography became a medium through which he was able to translate his unique perspectives, as well as tell the stories of industry professionals.

GRACE ELIZABETH
Grace Elizabeth’s passion for photography first bloomed from her love of travel - in capturing the everyday of different people, places and cultures.
With a background in International and Middle Eastern studies, coupled with journalism and photography - Grace has journeyed to remote locations to capture and write about subjects close to her heart - in particular human rights and women’s issues published in the likes of Marie Claire.

Leon Foggitt is a Commercial and Editorial photographer living in London and working for a range of publications and clients. He grew up in Devon and has been based in London for the past eight years.

ELLEN HANCOCK
Ellen is a freelance photographer, writer and content creator, predominately working with creatives and in the fields of architecture and travel. Having studied Fine Art at University, she has always had an interest in making and the creative process; curious as to individual idiosyncrasies in particular.
Living in Istanbul in her early twenties gave her a passion for travel, not just for passing through as a voyeur but lingering, taking the time to look a little closer and talk a little more. During her career she has interviewed the granddaughter of Charles Eames, an architect working on the final stages of the Sagrada Familia and the renowned weaver Trine Ellitsgard in Oaxaca. I’m a filmmaker and photographer from Conwy, North Wales. I love the slow adventure life, hiking up mountains, jumping in lakes or rambling along a breezy coastal cliff. ABI PROWSE
A freelance writer and translator based in the stunning yet underrated Friuli-Venezia Giulia region of Italy, Abi is originally from London, but has lived 'la dolce vita' for a number of years. Through her writing and photography, she aims to champion the art of slow travel and promote the places which are so often overlooked. Over the course of her career, Abi has written for various travel publications, both online and in print, and is also the founder of digital mag Viaggio Magazine.

REBECCA STUMPF
Rebecca Stumpf is an American editorial photographer specialising in travel, portraiture and documentary photography, based in Colorado and Montana. Her passion in telling visual stories lies in understanding the connection between people and nature - how they are inspired by it and the greater world around them; how they work with it; how they connect with it; how they experience it; and the creative space between the two.
She holds a Master's in Photojournalism from the University of Montana, and then found her way to Peace Corps, where she shared her love of the lens with women and children, among other community projects.
